Glasgow City Council Bulky Waste Charges

With effect from Monday 5th July 2021, Glasgow City Council will start charging for bulky waste uplifts:

Glasgow City Council took the decision to introduce charges for removing bulky waste at a meeting of the Full Council in February 2020. This decision brings Glasgow into line with the vast majority of Scottish local authorities, where charging for uplifting bulky items is a standard feature of their waste management services.

Requiring householders to pay for large items to be collected is also consistent with the council’s new Resource and Recycling Strategy 2020-30 and ‘empowering Glasgow to become a zero-waste city’.

You can find out more about the Resource and Recycling Strategy 2020-30 by following this link.

As a consequence of the pandemic, the introduction of a charging scheme for bulk uplifts has not progressed as planned, however, preparations are now being made for the introduction of charges on 5 July 2021.

Charges will be set at £35 for up to 10 standard bulky items and £35 for each large electrical item.  Our standard rate per item is lower than 75% of other Scottish Local Authorities.

Residents can request the service via the MyGlasgow App or by using the online request form on the council’s website at www.glasgow.gov.uk/bulkywaste

GCC will also provide a limited phone line 3 days a week for those residents who cannot access the internet.

After making a bulk service request, residents will be directed to payment and then given an appointment day for uplift and will be advised where to present their waste.

Full details of how to request this service, what the Council do and don’t collect and how to present items is available at www.glasgow.gov.uk/bulkywaste.
