‘Keeper of Light’ Unveiled
The stunning ‘Keeper of Light’ mural created by world-renowned artist Smug, was formally unveiled recently at a special event at the Social Hub, who commissioned the work.
The tallest mural in the city centre, ‘Keeper of Light’ celebrates the richness and diversity of the Merchant City past, present and future, and is already a popular stop on the many trails around the city’s murals. Community involvement was key to the design and development of the mural, led by SWG3’S Yardworks project. There are references to the Tollbooth Steeple, Tron Theatre, the Cenotaph, candle-making heritage, the area’s nightlife, all woven together round the figure themself, which celebrates the LGBTQI+ community that has long been a part of the Merchant City.
