We took up with Glasgow City Council’s Film Office a local resident’s complaint about excessive noise and other disruption caused by the above filming.
The Film Office responded that the company “acknowledge that the scale of the production was both larger than anticipated and greater in scale than indicated in their notification letters. We will advise productions to be clearer about details like this in future notification letters.”
It is clear that assurances Merchant City and Trongate Community Council was given before this project were misleading and we are raising the issue with the company concerned.
It is important that residents get in touch with us as soon as possible with any concerns about filming in their neighbourhood. The best way of doing so is to email [email protected].

The streets of the Merchant City were transformed into downtown US as part of the filming of Spiderman: Brand New Day. Wilson St and Hutcheson St were completely refurbished with American street names, post boxes, traffic signals, and the office fronts were repainted with grafitti for the filming. Tanks were seen driving down Hutcheson St, accompanied by many explosions and special effect shots. Hundreds of spectators crowded round the barricades hoping to catch some of the action, and maybe even see one of the stars!
Shahzaib Yaqoob, from Bodo Production was in town for the shooting:
“I run Bodo Production, a creative platform where I focus on photography and short films. Recently, I travelled to Glasgow to do a Spider-Man photo shoot during the filming of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The experience was phenomenal – I not only worked on our short film project but also had the chance to meet many welcoming locals and Spider-Man fans. Glasgow’s atmosphere and energy made the trip truly unforgettable”.
