Replacement of Timber Planters (Phase 2) – 4th July 2022

Phase 2 of the replacement of Timber Planters within the Merchant City shall commence on site soon.

Works shall include removal of the existing timber planters and replacing these with a more robust concrete planters and concrete benches. These works will also include replacing all the planting and refreshing the road markings within the project area. Glasgow City Council Sustainable Transport department,  Road Maintenance and Queens Park Nursery operatives will undertake the work.

Phase 2:

  • Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 4th July 2022 for a duration of 4 working days on Wilson Street, Bell Street and Trongate.

A traffic management system with road closures and reduced road widths will be in operation during the above dates. This is to ensure the safety of the public and site operatives. All businesses that require deliveries and local residents private parking within Albion Street will be allowed to gain access during these works.

This work is being carried out following the instruction of the City Administration Committee on the 16th of September 2021 for the permanence of measures created under Spaces for People. The current timber planters which are failing, will be replaced with decorative stone planters and benches. Layouts will be unaltered as these have previously been consulted upon with local groups / traders.
