Network Rail – Saltmarket Bridge Repairs – 15/8 to 2/12

Network Rail will shortly begin a £3.8 million improvement project to the rail bridge spanning the A8 at Saltmarket, near Glasgow Cross.

Our work is planned to take place over 12 months, from 15 August 2022 until September 2023 and will include rivet busting, grit blasting, steelwork repairs and painting.

The wrought-iron structure on the City Union Line is more than 150-years old and provides a route for freight traffic and a diversion route for passenger trains to Shields Depot where they are stabled and cleaned.

The work will be delivered in four phases.

While some noise from our works is unavoidable, we will do all we can to minimise the impact of this, including having acoustic barriers in place.

To help the community find out more about the work, there will be a community drop-in event on Wednesday 17thand Thursday 18th  August 2022 at 15 Osborne Street, G1 5QN, from 3.30pm to 7pm, where people will have a chance to meet the project team and ask questions directly about the project.
