Community Councillor Bios

Tam Coyle has worked in the Music Industry in various capacity for all of the 21st century including a two year post with Glasgow City Council as the UK`s first ever Music Business Development Officer.He has been a Community Councillor for over twenty years and is currently in his second spell as Chair of the Merchant City and Trongate Community Council and is the MCTCC Representative on the Merchant City Festival Steering Group. Away from that Tam is a keen fitba fan and has spent the last forty years as a long suffering member of the Tartan Army and has seen Scotland lose all over the world.

An IT professional with over 30 years experience of large financial and HR systems, Niall has lived and worked in the Merchant City since 2007. He joined MCTCC meetings in 2019, when he volunteered to redevelop our website and branding, which at that point had been neglected for some time. Having successfully launched the rebrand, he became a full community councillor at that year’s AGM . Niall still looks after the website, as well as monitoring our various social media outlets. He is part of our community engagement group, which is tasked with raising the profile of MCTCC with residents and businesses, and also runs the live-streaming of our monthly meetings. Away from work and the community council, Niall is a keen photographer and runner, having taken part in several marathons and half-marathons around Scotland.

Gordon is a Finance professional, with 40 years experience managing a variety of businesses . Gordon has lived in the Merchant City since 2011. He joined MCTCC in 2023 and was appointed Treasurer in Oct 2023 at the AGM. Gordon is a keen swimmer and walker and enjoys travelling. He is also involved in managing the block of flats that he lives in and has a passion for improving the Merchant City area as a community and place to live.

Secretary and Vice-Chair. Started attending MCTCC meetings to find out what was going on locally. Love the buzz and challenges of Scotland’s greatest city.Director of public relations company, which I founded in 2001, promoting hotels and restaurants. Spent more than 20 years around the world with Reuters as a foreign correspondent and senior manager. Worked in more than 40 countries on 5 continents. Began journalistic career as a pop music reporter. Guitarist, singer and former leader of Midlothian-based folk group. For several years Secretary of one of Glasgow’s largest tennis clubs. Completed two Marathons (London and Edinburgh), 10 Half-Marathons and countless 10ks, 5ks - and Santa Dashes! Have close involvement with the deaf community as I have a deaf daughter. Passionate but often disillusioned member of the Scottish football team’s Tartan Army.

Delighted to represent MCTCC as Co-Vice Chair, representing the Community Council on the Greater Glasgow Licensing Forum and the Area Partnership Group. A recent city centre hotel owner with over 30 years in hotels and hospitality senior executive positions, covering many national and Scottish sports stadiums, events venues, corporate and independent hotels, bars, restaurants and events. Having lived in the amazing vibrant cultural Merchant City for many years, the 'heart of our city centre, I enjoy utilising my experience of collaborating with local authorities, interested stakeholders and local businesses to positively represent the community in improving communication and facilities for residents, visitors and interested parties. Previously a founding Director and Vice Chair of the Board of both a major Scottish City Centre Business Improvement District, and a Scottish City Centre plus Regional Destination Marketing Organisation, leading large and small teams in both business and communities, I understand the challenges and frustrations of many, whilst acknowledging the 'art' of collaboration to make improvements and 'get things done'.

Ross Naismith has worked as an architect and designer, globally, for over 45 years. His focus is matters relating to Planning within the Community Council area. Ross` career spans long term appointments working for several world-renowned architecture and design consultancies, covering; Master Planning, Base Build Architecture, Expert Witnessing for Arbitrations, Legal and other Professional, and Non- Professional, Designing. He has extensive experience working for renowned Corporations, in the fields of Exploration, Insurance, Finance, Pharmaceuticals, Entertainment, Aeronautics, Law, Property Development, and Media, etc. Ross has acted as Global Practice Area Leader (in design) for Financial Services and as such is author of several industry trend opinion papers, notable in the Insurance sector. Ross is a founding member of a consultancy that combines Design with Strategy, Behavioural Psychology, and Change Management. His `core` strengths are Project and Design Direction; Account Management; Business Development. His `soft skill` strengths are Communication of ideas; Understanding business requirements; Mentorship producing great results; ‘`Vision` combined with `Pragmatism`. Ross has been a resident in Merchant City for two years. Ross hopes to bring his experience back to the city of his birth to effect change for the better.

Alice is a former civil servant from a commonwealth country,working for 12 years handling the various aspects in Administration in different departments. Her skills and experience were transferred to the hotel industry. Alice moved to Glasgow and became a resident in the Trongate area in early 2022 and immediately joined MCTCC meetings, and became a full community councillor at that year’s AGM. It is a privilege to have a platform to influence favourable change and shape the future of the area during this time of significant building developments. Among Other things, Alice’s hobbies include walking, arts and crafts.
